Smartwatch: Smart watch handed over to mobile thief, Cornish police for woman's intelligence

Technology can be a boon in dangerous situations if used intelligently and cautiously. Delhi's Gurugram witnessed one such incident recently. Gadgets like smartwatches have become quite popular these days. As they provide features like counting the user's steps or monitoring the heart rate, they can also track the location of the user's mobile phone. A man snatched her mobile phone from a woman while she was shopping at a grocery store in Gurugram and ran away. And by tracking the location of the phone on the smart watch, the woman reached the robber and was able to collect the phone from him. The people of Gurugram were impressed by the bravery and intelligence of the young woman.



Young woman punched mobile phone robber

Pallavi Kaushik, 23, a resident of Palam Vihar in Sector 23, Gurugram, went to the nearby Huda Bazar grocery store around 6 pm on August 28 to buy essentials. Under the pressure of the crowd in the shop, a person took the opportunity and picked up his mobile phone. However, Pallavi found the location of his mobile on his smart watch and reached the robber and took the phone back from him by punching him on the head. Later, the young woman registered an FIR at the police station. However, the accused has not been arrested yet.

According to the FIR filed by Pallavi Kaushik, a senior merchandiser at a firm in Delhi, a man was peering over his shoulder while standing at a shop paying a bill through UPI. Then he snatched his phone and ran away. The young woman chased him for some distance but the robber managed to escape.

Police said Pallavi then decided to track the location of the mobile phone through her smartwatch. His watch beeped to indicate that the phone was nearby. He was able to track the exact location of his mobile phone around 9 pm after roaming the streets of Sector 23 for almost three hours. Pallavi saw the man sitting on a parked motorcycle rummaging through his mobile phone. He approached the man from behind and punched him hard on the head. When the man tried to get free, the phone fell from his hand. The person hung up the phone. Pallavi then picked up her mobile and returned home. The next day he lodged a complaint with the Palam Vihar police station giving details.

The police informed that the robber did not stop with the phone, within that time he transferred Rs 50,865 from his bank account to another account using Pallaveer's UPI PIN. An FIR has been registered under sections 379 (theft), 379A (robbery) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code based on the girl's complaint.
